There’s a particular kind of softness that lives in the threshold between girlhood and womanhood. Dreamy. Delicate. A fleeting state that often disappears before we even realise it was ever there.

For our first collection of 2026, we return to that edge. That flickering moment where the innocence of girlhood begins to blur into the awakening of womanhood. It’s a space Spell has explored since our very first threads were sewn, and one that feels especially poignant as we celebrate 18 years of Spell: our own coming of age.

Homecoming is a love letter to girlhood’s fragility. Not the kind that gently fades, but the kind that suddenly vanishes. We explored this idea through the lens of cinema, through iconic stories where girls quite literally disappear at the very moment they begin to become women.

We looked to Picnic at Hanging Rock, where lace-clad schoolgirls vanish into the Australian bush on Valentine’s Day. A moment charged with symbolism, sitting right on the edge of transformation. I remember visiting Hanging Rock as a girl and feeling a deep sense of dread. What if I just disappeared with my sisters? It was visceral, the fear of literally losing myself. We lingered in those dusty, dreamlike frames, where femininity hovers in silence before it dissolves. You’ll see this echoed through the beautiful textural lace in the collection ~ modernised, not quite 18th-century schoolgirl, but that’s where the idea began.

We revisited The Virgin Suicides, Sofia Coppola’s aching portrayal of girlhood as seen through the gaze of others. The Lisbon sisters are both delicate and defiant, suspended in a hazy suburban dream, always just beyond reach. Alongside our quintessential rebel-spirit Spell energy, there’s a softness and prettiness to this collection that began with the Lisbon sisters.

And then there’s Labyrinth.

“…through dangers untold and hardships unnumbered, I fought my way here to the castle, beyond the Goblin City, to take back the child that you have stolen…”

Sarah, still wrapped in toys and imagination, journeys into the maze. She walks a coming-of-age fable, her strength woven from play and courage, not yet ready to let go of her girlhood.

These stories reminded us of the strange beauty and deep vulnerability of that in-between time. Of how femininity, in those early years, can feel like something always on the verge of disappearing. But when we stepped back from the screen, we asked ourselves, what does Homecoming look like in real life?

Because that’s where we wear our Spell. In real life.

So we stepped away from cinematic dreaming. No longer lost between worlds, no longer on the edge of biting into the poison peach or tumbling through the looking glass. Instead, we grounded ourselves in a tonal landscape of wheat fields, not far from our own backyard here in rural Australia. It’s a backdrop we’ve never used in a Spell campaign before, and yet it feels quintessentially Spell in every way.

Our muse roams wheat fields as far as the eye can see. Here, the wheat field becomes an archetype of returning home. And in that return, femininity is no longer imagined or mythologised ~ it’s embodied.

Homecoming brings all the signature softness of Spell, floaty gowns, nostalgic prints, feminine silhouettes. But this time, she doesn’t vanish.

She arrives.

At eighteen, Spell is no longer suspended in girlhood. Still full of wonder, yes ~ but firmly grounded. Wiser. Braver. Real.

Not disappearing.

Home.

Homecoming launches on Wednesday, February 11 at 10am AEDT / Tuesday, February 10 at 3pm PST #SpellHomecoming
