Introducing The Age of Aquarius: The Dawning.
A single ray of sunlight stretches out across the land, ‘The Dawning’: a glimmer of hope after a long dark night. This Spring we explore The Age of Aquarius.
“When the moon is in the Seventh House
And Jupiter aligns with Mars
Then peace will guide the planets
And love will steer the stars
This is the dawning of the Age of Aquarius
Age of Aquarius” - Aquarius by The 5th Dimension
Astrologers believe that an astrological age can affect humanity by influencing the rise and fall of civilizations. For our Spring 2021 collections, under the banner of The Age of Aquarius, we explore this concept against the framework of our own natural landscapes. Instead of looking to the stars for influences on our cultural tendencies, we looked to nature.
Romantic and floating, soft and textual, so too is our experience as we step tentatively out of our comfort zone into a wilderness unknown. The Dawning’s nature inspired details were created to foster a connectedness with the Earth, for it will be in this connectedness that we return home.
We travelled South to Tasmania, and started our journey from the warmth and safety of home. A small village on the outskirts of a wild and untouched land. We shot against the raw beauty of Tasmania with muse Charlee Fraser. You may remember we shot with Charlee over 6 years ago (for Hotel Paradiso) and while we have loved watching her career soar, it felt very special to reconnect and shoot with her again for such a special collection.
The Dawning’s signature print story Juniper is a love letter to a humble cottage garden, the first step from the warmth of your home’s hearthstone out into nature and beyond. We loved that the Juniper was the only plant food eaten by larvae that would become moths and butterflies ~ what a perfect analogy that our connection with nature is instrumental in our own chrysalises of transformation. In our favourite hues, the rich violets of Dawn moving into a pastel sunrise to the charcoal of last light. Only the violet colourway features shimmering metallics paying homage to the first slither of golden light as it cracks into a new dawn. As part of our ongoing commitment to using fabrications and production techniques that create less impact, the Juniper story is crafted from a blend of LENZING™ ECOVERO™ viscose and Organic Cotton, as well as using digital printing which utilises 60% less water in the production process.
The Juniper story is accompanied by a handful of stunning basics in tonal hues – heralding the introduction of a new category called Spell Basics. Our Yellowstone knits in hues reminiscent of waving fields of sun-kissed grass, our Frenchie rib basics and ultra-femme Gardenia Linen pieces complete this collection of tonal basics which can be worn stand-alone or paired back with any print.
The Dawning launches on Wednesday, July 21st at 10am AEST / 5pm PDT on Tuesday 20th July.
