Bluesfest 2015 – Byron Bay
Photos & story by Mel Carrero for Common Ground Byron Bay.
The rain couldn’t keep them away, and the mud just made it more fun. Bluesfest, 2015 – what a treat!
I was on the ground all weekend, hunting down all you bohemian babes – and chicks, you did not disappoint! It can be hard, dressing for a weather-moody festival like Blues, one minute the sun is shining and then you’re caught in the rain! Emergency ponchos everywhere, lots of mud on those boots! We’re huge fans of Glastonbury festival-style so we relished the chance to pair gumboots with our outfits!
There was a group of girls that were #festivalstyle perfection every single day, we were friends by the end of it because I had to keep stalking them and stopping them to pose for photos! Many of them wore Spell, or other local labels, amazing jewellery, all styled up with really cool glitter and bindis and smiles on their dials. Then of course, there was the fabulous crew from Nine Lives Bazaar and their matching vintage get-ups (the ladies in all that 70s orange/brown colour-pop above). The outfits + the mud, it felt like Woodstock!
A personal highlight was shooting the gorgeous Nic Trunfio, first in her For Love and Lemons sexy black lace and sheer mesh dress and the next day, her gorgeous soft, styling of Spell pieces (yes, she had a baby two months ago, and yes, she looks like that!).
The festival has a mixed crowd, lots of families and children wearing tie-dye, lots of old rockers from way back and then your newbie festival goers who still seemed to know a thing or two about acts that would have been before their time. Definitely Byron’s most relaxed festival, so pull up a chair (or a, um, spliff), listen to to the music or dance the night away – whatever you want to do, it’s ok with everyone else. Just do it with a little bit of #festivalstyle. But we don’t need to tell you – you can see above that the beauties out on that muddy field were nailing it all day every day! See you for Splendour in a few months y’all!
